Preview: Cleverly fears end of Hopkins dream

Tony Bellew and Nathan Cleverly had to be dragged apart at an explosive weigh-in ahead of their WBO light-heavyweight title clash in Liverpool on Saturday.

Cleverly, the champion, smiled calmly as home favourite Bellew barked in his face before security staff intervened. The build-up has been marked by a series of flashpoints, including Bellew headbutting his opponent, and at one point Cleverly's camp threatened to pull out.

Cleverly weighed just under the limit at 12st 6lb 4oz, while undefeated challenger Bellew was spot on at 12st 7lb.

Elsewhere, James DeGale came in at 11st 13lb 8oz for his European super-middleweight title fight against the champion Piotr Wilczewski, who scaled 11st 13lb 12oz. DeGale is expected to land a rematch against George Groves, the British and Commonwealth champion, if he can defeat the Pole.

Groves beat DeGale on points when they met during May, and both are now promoted by Frank Warren after Groves left Hayemaker.
