Manny Pacquiao's sparring partner Hastings Bwalya had to be put out of his misery after two rounds with the WBO welterweight champion, according to reports in the Philippines.

Pacquiao had been limbering up with Jorge Linares, but lost him to Saturday's WBC lightweight title clash, meaning Bwalya was called in as a replacement.

Bwalya, a Zambian Olympian unbeaten from seven professional bouts, reportedly entered the ring in confrontational mood, looking to goad Pacquiao. Six minutes later, having been outclassed by the man regularly called the world's best, he was replaced by Pacquiao's regular sparring partner Ray Beltran.

Two more rounds with Bwalya followed before the newcomer was again pulled out, and told he had one more day to impress by Freddie Roach.

Pacquiao is preparing for a title defence against Juan Manuel Marquez during November, his third meeting with the Mexican.

Meanwhile, Linares lost his bout with Antonio DeMarco on the undercard of Bernard Hopkins v Chad Dawson, falling victim to an 11th-round stoppage.
