- Saul Alvarez v Kermit Cintron
Alvarez calls out Floyd after crushing Cintron
WBC light-middleweight champion Saul Alvarez put his hand up for a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jnr in May after defeating Kermit Cintron on Saturday.
Alvarez (39-0-1, 29 KOs) dropped and cut Cintron (33-5-1, 28 KOs) during the fourth, before the referee stopped the fight in the fifth when Cintron was trapped against the ropes by his opponent's relentless attacks.
It was another impressive performance by Alvarez, 21, who has been tipped to inherit Mayweather's crown of pound-for-pound king. And it seems a meeting between the two could take place sooner than expected, judging by Alvarez's comments after stopping Cintron.
"Next year we want the best, we want Mayweather in May," Alvarez told USA Today. "Apart from the money, we want to fight the best in the world and he's the best pound-for-pound, so we want to fight him."
Mayweather had been expected to fight Pacquiao on May 5 in Las Vegas, but the Filipino now looks destined to face Juan Manuel Marquez around that time, opening the door for Alvarez.
