- Amir Khan v Lamont Peterson
Peterson rematch won't be in the UK - Khan
Amir Khan has ruled out any possibility of his rematch with Lamont Peterson taking place in the United Kingdom.
Khan, the former WBA and IBF light-welterweight champion, lost his titles to Peterson after a controversial fight in the American's native Washington DC on Saturday, as he ended up on the wrong end of a split decision after seeing points deducted in disputed fashion.
Both fighters have expressed their willingness to arrange an immediate rematch of the contest, but Khan has ruled out any prospect of Peterson crossing the Atlantic for their second meeting - with Las Vegas seemingly his preferred venue.
"I don't think the rematch will be in the UK, I don't think he will want to come here," Khan said. "Anywhere but DC would be fine. Vegas could be a good spot, [promoters] Golden Boy are trying for the fight in Vegas. Lamont Peterson said he would love a rematch with me straight after the fight ... so I think that is the next move for both of us.
"He won't come to the UK. But when I do beat him I do not want him to say the same thing happened to him as did to me. I want neutral judging, a neutral referee."
Khan has defended himself against criticism suggesting he was foolish to agree to the fight in the American capital, saying that he had little choice if he wanted to continue to fight high-calibre opposition before his eventual move to welterweight.
"Ideally we wanted to fight [Timothy] Bradley, but he refused that fight so we moved to Lamont Peterson," he noted. "We offered him the fight in the UK but he refused, and he wouldn't fight anywhere but DC. So we took that fight. People were saying it was a bit of mistake, stupid to go there, but we needed the fight. That's the type of fighter I am - I will travel."
On the fight itself Khan admits he made mistakes - revealing he expects to get "earache" from trainer Freddie Roach when the pair resume training.
"Maybe I fought with my heart too much and not with my brain," he said. "I stayed in there too long and traded with him. I wanted to prove to him that even though he was fighting in his home state I was still there in front of him. I thought I could take this guy inside and outside.
"But these are the fights that are going to take me where I want to be, it will only make me a better fighter. I enjoyed every minute of it and I want to get back in there and do it again."
