British and Commonwealth super-middleweight champion George Groves has postponed his fight with Kenny Anderson, which was scheduled for Friday, due to injury. A new date for the Wembley Arena contest is to be announced shortly.

Groves and Anderson were due to meet for the second time; when they first met, in November 2010, Groves had to pick himself from the floor before triumphing.

Promoter Frank Warren said: "Of course, it's bitterly disappointing for us and all the boxers involved, but in sport injuries occur and there is very little anyone can do about it.

"We had already lost Matthew Hall, who was due to box Sam Webb in a championship eliminator, because of an injury and now with George withdrawing from the main event I have had no option but to postpone the whole card until a later date.

"Once my team have spoken to Wembley about a new date I hope we can get this fight on very soon."

Last week, the WBO ordered a purse bid for a fight between Groves and champion Robert Stieglitz.

Stieglitz had been due to face Kessler, but the Dane has withdrawn from that encounter.
