Vitali Klitschko still holds hope of fighting David Haye, but the WBC heavyweight champion says unless the Brit slashes his money demands then a potential showdown will never materialise.

Following Dereck Chisora's defeat to Vitali in February, an angry Haye lambasted the Ukrainian at the post-fight press conference for not agreeing to a fight with the Briton. Haye, who is currently retired, then brawled with Chisora and it remains to be seen whether the Londoner will face any sanctions for his part in the ugly incident in Munich.

Earlier this month, Haye claimed he had been handed the chance to challenge Vitali for the WBC strap, before blaming Klitschko's political ambitions for a prospective deal falling through. Even if Haye can get a licence from the British Boxing Board of Control, doubts remains as to whether the WBC would sanction a contest with Vitali, especially considering Haye is not ranked in the governing body's top 15 heavyweights.

Despite many question marks remaining, Vitali is still keen to do what his brother Wladimir could not and knock out Haye, though the Brit will have to lower his asking price if he wants to get the elder Klitschko into the ring.

"It would really be an interesting fight," Vitali said, according to boxingscene.com. "But Haye has to tame his appetite, because the conditions dictated by him are not acceptable given the fact that he is no longer a world champion. All the time I have to repeat this to him. If we can reach agreement and sign a contract, we shall immediately arrange a press conference."
