Groves falls out of world title picture
George Groves is no longer the mandatory challenger for the WBO super-middleweight title after he withdrew from a fight against champion Robert Stieglitz.
British and Commonwealth champion Groves was scheduled to face Stieglitz on Germany on May 5, but pulled out with an injury he picked up during training for the bout.
The winner of Stieglitz v Groves would have had to face Arthur Abraham by the end of the year; Abraham has now taken Groves' place as Stieglitz's mandatory foe.
Groves has now pulled out of two fights in a row, having also failed to fulfil a date against Kenny Anderson that was due to take place on March 16.
"It now seems unlikely that Groves will get a shot a the WBO belt this year," said the WBO in a statement.
