Hopkins drops Cleverly hint

Bernard Hopkins, 47, has vowed not to hang up his gloves, despite surrendering the WBC light-heavyweight crown to Chad Dawson at the weekend.

Hopkins, the oldest man ever to win a major world title, impressed few as he fell victim to a majority decision against Dawson in Atlantic City, leading to speculation he could walk away from the sport.

However, the American intends to continue his career, and is targeting one of the other champions at light-heavyweight: IBF champion Tavoris Cloud, WBA king Beibut Shumenov or Britain's WBO supremo, Nathan Cleverly.

Cleverly and his promoter Frank Warren have made no secret of their desire to entice Hopkins into a Welsh ring, and 'The Executioner' appears open to the prospect.

"I fought hard Saturday night and feel the fight was closer than two of the scores reflected," Hopkins said. "Regardless of the result, I will continue my career and challenge any champion in my division.

"I might be older, but I don't feel a decline in my skills or abilities in the ring. I love to fight and am still competing at a level where boxing cannot deny me the opportunity to succeed."
