Early talks between the Amir Khan and Danny Garcia camps have failed to produce a deal, according to reports in the American media.

Khan was scheduled to face Lamont Peterson on May 19, but that bout was scrapped after Peterson tested positive for synthetic testosterone, which he claims he used for medical reasons.

The Brit is now expected to be in action on July 7, and unbeaten WBC light-welterweight champion Danny Garcia has been tipped to step into the breach left by the KO of the Peterson bout.

However, nothing was agreed during talks between Richard Schaefer, CEO of Khan's promoters Golden Boy, and one of Garcia's representatives on Wednesday. Despite this, Schaefer insists there will be further discussions.

"I'm having conversations with HBO, I'm having conversations with the Khans and I'm having conversations with Danny Garcia's adviser, Al Haymon, to see if that fight can be put together. I'm working with all three parties from a monetary point of view to see if it can be done," Schaefer told boxingscene.com.

Erik Morales and Devon Alexander are believed to be the back-up options for Khan if the Garcia contest falls through.
