Chisora and Haye to fight for WBO and WBA honours
The David Haye v Dereck Chisora heavyweight grudge match has been given more credibility with the news that the combatants will fight for the WBO international and WBA inter-continental titles.
The WBC stood alongside the British Boxing Board of Control on Friday by saying that it would ban anyone involved with the bout, which has been sanctioned by the Luxembourg Boxing Federation because neither Haye nor Chisora holds a British licence.
Haye, a former WBA heavyweight champion, handed in his licence when he 'retired' last October, while Chisora's was taken away due to his widely-condemned actions before and after a meeting with Vitali Klitschko during February.
Chisora has appealed the decision to strip him of his British licence, and he has been granted a hearing during July.
Paco Valcarcel, president of the WBO, said: "We have to go ahead and approve the fight. The Luxembourg Boxing Federation is a member of the WBO and the problem is between the LBF and the British Boxing Board of Control, not the LBF and the WBO."
