Khan warns Garcia that he is 'a class above'

Amir Khan expects to prove he is "a class above" Danny Garcia when he fights the WBC light-welterweight champion in July.

Khan is set to fight Garcia in Las Vegas on July 14, after his scheduled rematch with Lamont Peterson was cancelled after the American failed a drugs test. The IBF and WBA light-welterweight titles Khan lost to Peterson could also be on the line by the time he steps into the ring with Garcia, but that decision remains in the hands of the relevant authorities.

Regardless of whether or not the fight becomes a unification bout, Khan is confident he will triumph - despite recent comments from Garcia that he didn't understand the hype surrounding the Bolton fighter.

"We'll see on July 14 what happens. I think this is just a class above him, but we'll see what happens," Khan told Sky Sports News.

He added: "Danny Garcia is a very good fighter. He's only 23, had 23 fights, but he's strong and powerful. I think it's a bit early for him to face me but, as a world champion, it's a good fight and as he's never tasted defeat so he'll be determined to avoid it.

"He's not going to come into the fight just to make the numbers, he is going to want to win. He is ambitious."

The fight will be Khan's first on American soil since the controversial loss to Peterson in Washington DC at the end of 2011, which was dogged in the immediate aftermath by concerns the judges' scorecards had been tampered with. But having fought - and won - twice already in his career in Las Vegas, Khan is not fearful of a repeat performance.

"I've fought in Vegas twice before and there's not been any funny men in hats messing around with judging cards or anything like that," he noted. "I've won there twice before, hopefully it should be another good win for me."
