Commonwealth middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders made an impressive maiden defence of his title against Bradley Price at York Hall on Friday, winning via a lop-sided unanimous decision.

Saunders, 22, who won the title by blasting through Tony Hill in 30 seconds at the Royal Albert Hall last month, denied Pryce his dream of becoming a double Commonwealth champion with a dominant display.

Pryce did not win one round in the fight, justifying the bookies' pre-bout odds, which were stacked in Saunders' favour.

Unbeaten in his professional career, Saunders capitalised on his southpaw stance to hurt Pryce with his jab early in the fight. The left hand then began to damage the left eye of Pryce, who could barely see out of it by the time the bell rang for round eight.

Only on the odd occasion did Saunders have to cover up as he breezed to the decision victory, with tougher tests surely to come.
