- Amir Khan v Danny Garcia
Angry Khan vows to 'shut up' Garcia's father
Amir Khan reacted angrily after being called "overrated" by opponent Danny Garcia's father, with the Brit entering the war of words by threatening to knock him out after he has disposed of his son.
The unbeaten Garcia has stepped up to the plate to fight Khan after the Brit's arranged rematch against Lamont Peterson fell through on account of the American testing positive for testosterone.
Garcia, who boasts 14 knockouts from 23 straight wins as a pro, puts his WBC light-welterweight title on the line when the pair meet at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, with Khan desperate to get his career back on track after surrendering his WBA and IBF belts to Peterson at the end of 2011.
Khan began the pre-fight press conference in Los Angeles by talking up his opponent, who claimed his first world title by defeating Mexican veteran Erik Morales on points in March.
He said: "He's a champion; we know how good he is - he's had a good win against Erik Morales, who I'm a big fan of when he was at his peak. This is going to be a big test for me."
However, Garcia's father, Angel, was not so respectful when referring to the Briton. Peterson claimed a controversial split decision victory in December, and Garcia's father stuck the boot in by goading the wounded Bolton-born fighter.
"Khan is overrated first of all," he said. "Khan got knocked out in Europe [against Breidis Prescott in 2008]. That happens, that happens to the best. Second of all, Peterson whooped him like an octopus, hit him from all kind of angles - and then he [Khan] blamed it on the judges.
"When Danny starts hitting you with these hammers, what are you going to start to blame it on? The gloves will have rocks in them? What are you going to do? One-two, roll out, all night?"
Khan, visibly seething following the taunts, could not resist aiming a few verbals in the other direction, and vowed to "shut him up".
"Danny's father does a lot of talking," he said. "At the end of the day he's not going to be the one in the ring taking the shots. You can keep saying what you want - that I'm overrated and I'm no good - but when I beat your son, am I still going to be overrated?
"His father seems frustrated because he knows his son is in a big fight and he's going to get beat. It's going to be an electrifying fight and I'm going to beat his son. It's like I'm not talking to Danny Garcia - I'm speaking to his dad. I'm going to do it [win] just to shut his dad up."
Khan could then be heard saying: "So you're going to be taking the same shots I'm going to be hitting him with yeah? Well you're getting knocked out too then."
