British and Commonwealth super-middleweight champion George Groves will be in action for the first time in nearly nine months when he meets Francisco Sierra on July 28 in California.

Mexico's Sierra, 24, has lost five of his 31 fights, including two of his last three, so should not present Groves with too many problems as he bids to shake off any ring rust.

Injuries prevented Groves from fulfilling recent dates against Kenny Anderson and Robert Stieglitz.

"It is more relief than anything now that I finally have a date to box," Groves said. "It feels like a lifetime since I last fought and I need to make up for lost time seeing as I haven't managed one round of competitive fighting this year.

"Francisco Sierra is a very seasoned and tenacious fighter. He packs a punch and has a typical no holds barred Mexican style. I can't wait to face this test, and finally show all the improvements I have made this year."
