Khan: Fans know my bout is bigger

Amir Khan is in no doubt that boxing fans recognise that his title fight with Danny Garcia in Las Vegas is bigger than the David Haye-Dereck Chisora grudge match at Upton Park.

Both fights take place on Saturday night, leading to fears that a non-title heavyweight bout sparked by the duo's brawl earlier this year could overshadow Khan's ongoing quest to unify the light-welterweight division and his third appearance at the Mandalay Bay resort.

Haye and Chisora stole the headlines after agreeing to step into the ring to settle their differences after Chisora alleged that he had been hit by a bottle while confronting Haye in a press conference following his defeat by Vitali Klitschko in Munich, a bout that led to Chisora's BBBoC licence being suspended.

But Khan, hoping to bounce back after losing his WBA and IBF titles to Lamont Peterson in December, another highly controversial contest, is unconcerned about the prospect of his thunder being stolen.

"People know the difference, especially boxing fans, they know my fight is a lot bigger because there's two world titles on the line," Khan told BBC Radio 5 Live. "David is a good friend of mine but the fight is not as big a fight. There are no world titles on the line and I don't think Chisora is top-10 in the world.

"The guy I'm fighting, Danny Garcia, is a top-10 in the world so it makes it more fun to watch for the fans.

"At the end of the day, the Chisora fight against David, I think it's better for them to settle the score in the boxing ring than outside the boxing ring."

Khan is hoping to extend his winning sequence at the Mandalay Bay resort after defending his WBA light-welterweight title against Marcos Maidana there two years ago before adding the IBF title after defeating Zab Judah in 2011.

Having lost his belts to Peterson, the Bolton-based boxer is fighting to reclaim the WBA title after the American was stripped of the belt following doping allegations, and add Garcia's WBC belt in the process.

"I've had some great wins over here," Khan told Sky Sports News. "With Maidana - which was the fight of the year 2010 - and also with Judah, who was a huge name, and I beat him over here - a stoppage in five.

"This will be my third fight over here. I've had great luck here, so let's make it another big one."
