Enzo Calzaghe: Let me make Khan unbeatable

Amir Khan has been handed a fresh option by revered trainer Enzo Calzaghe, who has revealed he would like to work with the Bolton fighter and get his career back on track.

Khan's career has stalled following back-to-back defeats, the latest of which was a fourth-round knockout suffered at the hands of unbeaten WBC light-welterweight champion Danny Garcia in the early hours of Sunday morning.

With Khan's current coach Freddie Roach unable to give the Brit his full attention due to his commitments with welterweight star Manny Pacquiao, the former WBA and IBF light-welterweight king may be tempted to look elsewhere.

Calzaghe, the father of the unbeaten former super-middleweight world champion Joe, recently had his training licence reinstated after his old one lapsed following Calzaghe Jr's retirement in 2009, and he feels he is more than equipped to reignite Khan's stuttering career.

"My next goal is to talk to Amir Khan and his team," Calzaghe said. "We spoke before, about three years ago. I have always believed Amir is a great fighter, despite what people think.

"People say he should quit but I don't think he should be quitting. I believe with the right trainer - and my CV speaks for itself - he will be unbeatable. I would love to train the kid."

Khan had been on track for a potential showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr, but successive defeats to Lamont Peterson and Garcia have ruined that prospect, at least for now. The 25-year-old says things must change, including the amount of time he spends with his trainer.

"I need a trainer with me 100%. Freddie is a very busy guy and he is busy because he is a great trainer and is one of the best and biggest names out there. I don't really want to be sharing. When I'm not there I don't mind what Freddie does, but [in camp] I just need someone who is going to be with me constantly and working hard with me."
