Tommy Oosthuizen is being lined up as an opponent for Carl Froch to defend his IBF super-middleweight title against, with negotiations reportedly close to being finalised.

Unbeaten Oosthuizen's representatives have approached Froch with a view to the 24-year-old being the Nottingham fighter's next opponent, as a voluntary defence later this year in America.

Froch has already lined up rematches in 2013 with Lucian Bute - who he took the IBF crown off in May - and Mikkel Kessler - who beat him in 2010 - but appears set to take on South African Oosthuizen in October of this year.

Oosthuizen extended his record to 20 wins and a draw with a victory against Rowland Bryant in New York on Friday, as he successfully defended his IBO belt.

Kelly Pavlik was understood to have been amongst those being considered as Froch's next opponent, but attempts to bring the American fighter to the UK look to have failed.
