Promoter Frank Warren has again come under fire for linking Nathan Cleverly with a big-name fight, with Eddie Hearn the latest to take a swipe.

After it was announced earlier this week that Cleverly, the WBO light-heavyweight champion, will defend his title against Vyacheslav Uzelkov in October, Warren expressed frustration that he had been unable to agree a deal with a better-known fighter.

Warren claimed he had Bernard Hopkins lined up, only for Hopkins to respond by calling Cleverly a "bum" - and Warren also suggested "Carl Froch didn't want to know".

Cleverly has been criticised in some quarters for defending his title against three fighters he was expected to beat comfortably - with the possible exception of Tony Bellew.

Hearn, Froch's promoter, has accused Warren of submitting an offer that he knew would be rejected. "We have stated time and time again that we are not interested in a fight with Nathan," Hearn said to boxingscene.com.

"We then receive an e-mail with an offer and by this time Carl is IBF super-middleweight champion. They knew, we knew that we were never going to accept it.

"It's easy to throw offers around and it's easy to hype a fight that really has no relevance to anyone. I find the whole thing quite sad and I actually feel sorry for Nathan Cleverly."
