Magee wants to fight Froch after Kessler

Northern Ireland boxer Brian Magee says he might fancy a second crack at Carl Froch if he comes through against Denmark's Mikkel Kessler on Saturday.

Magee is defending his WBA title on enemy territory in Herning, west Denmark, and despite the fervent home support for Kessler, Magee believes he has a fighting chance.

In bouts against Danish fighters on their patch, Magee's ledger reads 2-0 thanks to victories over Rudy Markussen in February and Mads Larsen in 2010.

And buoyed by that record, the 37-year-old has even cast his hopes forward to post-Kessler fights against Froch and other super-middleweights.

In Magee's first meeting with Froch in 2006 in Bethnal Green, London, he was knocked down in the 11th round but if he manages to retain his belt this weekend, "The Cobra" could well receive an invitation to a re-match.

But Magee is resigned to the fact that any bout with Froch would be too big to hold in the town he calls home: Belfast.

"It's probably too big a fight to have in Belfast, but that would be amazing," said Magee. "I would love to fight in Belfast again.

"I've got the mentality now that I've got to do it this way, just get on with the job. It's definitely worked for me so far. Fingers crossed, I have travelled to Denmark and things have gone just as good.

"It's crazy the way they [Danish fans] follow him [Kessler], they hold him in such high esteem. I knew it was going to be big, but I was shocked at how big it is now that I'm here. They are good fight fans, it's just a pity they are all here for their man.

"They are passionate, they are loud, they are hysterical actually to the other man, but it makes for a great atmosphere in the arena."
