Ogogo turns pro with Golden Boy

Olympic bronze-medallist Anthony Ogogo has joined the professional ranks by signing with Golden Boy Promotions.

Golden Boy is a Los Angeles-based promoter set up by Oscar de la Hoya 10 years ago and counts Amir Khan amongst its stable of fighters.

The addition of Ogogo ends speculation over the 24-year-old's future as he was also considering various amateur offers.

The Lowestoft-born middleweight won bronze at London 2012 despite preparations being hampered by having to recover quickly from shoulder surgery and the ill health of his mother, who suffered a brain aneurysm in June.

Ogogo cited Golden's Boy record in working with the sport's big names as a key motivating factor in signing up.

"I am delighted to be signing with the premier promoter in boxing, Golden Boy Promotions," Ogogo said. "So many great fighters have come before me at Golden Boy and in the coming years I hope to live up to the standard they've set. I can't wait to get started."

Golden Boy's CEO Richard Schaefer believes the Brit has what it takes to box professionally and stressed more British boxers would be on their books in the future.

"I have no doubt that Anthony has the skills in the ring and the personality outside of it to make him a global boxing star," Schaefer said. "We are proud to have him on our team and this is just the first step in our growing commitment to British boxing."
