Sauerland: Fury-Price won't happen this year

A British face-off between Tyson Fury and David Price has 2014 stamped on it, according to German promoter Kalle Sauerland.

The emerging heavyweights seem destined to face each other but even a £1 million offer from promoter Frank Maloney has so far not tempted Fury's camp.

Price himself has admitted that the loser of the bout would have his career ruined and Sauerland also believes there is too much at risk for a fight to happen this year.

"I don't want to put a dampener on it for the fans, but I don't know why they've got to box at this stage," Sauerland is quoted as saying by boxingscene.com.

"There are so many big fights that can be made in the future. Give it some time, the Klitschkos aren't getting stronger, there's only one left most likely.

"This country is blessed with an abundance of heavyweight talent coming through, so why risk it now. In a year's time the division is going to be so exciting."

Sauerland also expressed how impressed he was with Fury, both inside and outside the ring. The 24-year-old welcomed in 2013 by claiming he was the "baddest man on the planet" before labelling UFC fighter Michael Bisping a "first class pr**k".

But his expletive-filled outbursts, made on Twitter, mask the heavyweight's true nature and the promoter claimed he was actually a 'gentleman'.

"I found Fury to be a gentleman with us and with our team," he added. "He looked very impressive in sparring. David Price, we've done sparring with him as well, and he looked very impressive as well."
