Mayweather Jr called on to fight Guerrero

Kell Brook's hopes of facing Devon Alexander have been boosted by the news the WBC wants Floyd Mayweather Jr to face Robert Guerrero for the welterweight title.
Brook's camp had worked on a deal to fight Alexander, but it was scuppered first by an injury to Brook and most recently an injury to Alexander. And before another date could be finalised, the chances of the fight taking place were plunged into doubt when Mayweather claimed that Alexander was his likely next opponent on May 4.
The Sheffield boxer's manager Eddie Hearn is seeking clarity, amid suggestions that the Mayweather camp put Alexander's name out there in order to force Guerrero to sign a contract.
And it would appear that WBC, whose welterweight belt is held by Mayweather, wants him to fight their interim champion Guerrero.
"We want Mayweather to fight against Guerrero so there is a single champion in the welterweight division," WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman told Boxing Scene.
"We want Mayweather to first unify the titles, because Guerrero won an eliminator and became the interim champion."
