Fury vows to KO 'grandad' Thompson for Britain

Tyson Fury insists he will seek a fight with Tony Thompson to show America that it is not British boxers' habit at large to be beaten by a "grandad."

Fury's domestic rival David Price was knocked out by Thompson, 41, on Saturday in the second round, to the surprise of the boxing world.

Despite Price and Fury being seen on a level par to succeed David Haye as Britain's top heavyweight before the fight, the 24-year-old expressed his disappointment for Price at his sudden shift down the pecking order.

After the fight at Liverpool's Echo Arena, Thompson called out Fury and labelled him a 'sissy', adding that he is not even in the same league as Price.

Fury seems glad to accept a match and said that after his IBF title eliminator with Steve Cunningham in New York in April he would chase Thompson.

"I don't want America to think all Brits are like David Price, Fury told the Manchester Evening News. "I can't let Thompson get away with that - I will have to take him out for Price.

"I'm gutted for Price as a fellow boxer. He's put in all the hard work and fallen at one of the last hurdles. It could happen to anyone and it's just happened to him. He might come back. He's always got a puncher's chance. He's got a big punch but often the big punchers can't take them back.

"Cunningham is a lot harder fight. After him I will take Thompson and show Price how to deal with a granddad. I guarantee it won't last longer than three rounds. I will blitz him."
