'New star' Selby to fight McConnell on April 20
Eddie Hearn has confirmed that Lee Selby will meet Corey McConnell in a Commonwealth featherweight title bout on April 20.
Selby is one of several fighters Hearn is attempting to guide towards a world title, and he will continue his path against McConnell, who brings an undefeated record to the UK.
The pair will square off on the undercard of Brian Rose v Joachim Alcine in Blackpool, with Selby eyeing a win that could set up a Cardiff co-headliner alongside Gavin Rees later in the year.
"I can't wait to watch Lee in action and he will have his work cut out against a motivated McConnell," Hearn said.
"McConnell has an exciting style and will come to fight but in my opinion Selby is the new star of British boxing and I'm looking for him to make a major statement in Blackpool."
