Matthew Macklin believes he is ready to take down Gennady Golovkin when they clash on June 29 for the WBA and IBO middleweight titles.

The 30-year-old Birmingham boxer is set to provide Golovkin with his toughest challenge yet as he launches a third attempt to claim the world belts. Golovkin will defend his titles for an eighth time and has not been beaten in 26 career bouts.

Macklin lost out to Felix Sturm for the WBA super-middleweight crown two years ago, and was defeated by Sergio Gabriel Martinez a year ago.

However, the former British and European champion is ready to take Golovkin on. "He's destroyed pretty much everyone and, as a consequence, he's probably the most hyped-fighter in the sport," Macklin said.

"People have made him out to be a monster but he bleeds red just like everybody else. When you compare my last three opponents to his it's clear who the proven entity is."
