Burns unconcerned with Gonzalez KO ratio

Ricky Burns has stated that he is not concerned over Jose Gonzalez's knockout ratio, insisting he has what it takes to counter the Puerto Rican's big punches.

Burns defends his WBO lightweight title against Gonzalez at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow on May 11, and admits the only footage he could find of his opponent was of knock-out punches that Gonzalez had administered.

Undefeated Gonzalez has scored 17 knockouts in 22 professional career victories, but 30-year-old Burns is confident that he can find enough to end the lightweight's unbeaten streak.

"He [Gonzalez] is obviously a big puncher but I have been in with big punchers before so I will just have to make sure my hands are up and I go out there and do what I have been training to do," Burns said. "His knockout ratio doesn't concern me at all.

"I am a good fighter but over my last few fights I have been getting a lot more aggressive. I have been going forward a lot more and can fight on the front.

"We have been struggling to get any footage of his fights, the only things we can find on YouTube is him knocking boys out.

"He switch-hits, he likes to hit you with a big left hook. When I have watched the footage it seems to be the big left hook he has been knocking everybody out with.

"Although when you look at my record I don't really have a lot of knockouts, I do hit hard enough to make the guy think about coming in."
