McDonnell wants to run through division
Jamie McDonnell has set himself a target of unifying the bantamweight division after beating Julio Ceja to claim the IBF title.
McDonnell was handed his shot at the big time against Ceja and he took his opportunity with a stirring display to edge a tight fight in front of a vocal crowd in Doncaster.
The 27-year-old claims it is still to truly sink in that he is a world champion, but he is already looking to the future.
"I said to Dennis (Hobson, promoter) on the night to get me a fight with a kid with another belt," McDonnell told ESPN. "I've already gone away with the British title and all I want is a picture with all the belts that's all I want. I want to be stood there with all those belts strapped around me. I want all the world belts so I said to him to line me up with another kid, WBO or WBA.
"I want to unify it and I'll sit down with Dennis and we'll take whatever fight we need to take' maybe just a defence of the IBF but I'd like to unify it."
Heaping praise on the previously unbeaten Ceja, McDonnell said: "This kid, I believe he might have been the toughest out there.
"He was strong for a 20-year-old, I didn't expect him to be as tough as he was but he was still there in the 12th round with power punches. I do believe that he was the toughest out there.
"I do believe that I'm going to round all them belts up, that is my dream. I want all the belts strapped to me and I'm hoping Dennis can line them fights up."
