Alexander Povetkin retained his undefeated record and WBA world heavyweight title with an impressive third round stoppage of previously unbeaten Andrzej Wawrzyk in Moscow on Friday, paving the way to an Autumn bout with Wladimir Klitschko.

The Russian was barely troubled by Wawrzyk as he completely outclassed his opponent after a tentative first round.

Povetkin took advantage of weak punches from the Pole, and had Wawrzyk down on the canvas in the second following a huge right hand.

Wawrzyk recovered and rose to last the end of the round, but the titlist was simply too strong. In the third, Povetkin powered to victory after landing another big shot that bloodied his opponent's nose, before the referee stopped the bout and hand the 33-year-old his 26th career win.

Victory for Povetkin means he will face Klitschko in Moscow later in the year, with a date of October 5 being touted, after his manager Vladimir Hryunov won promotional rights with a purse bid of $23 million.
