Froch facing investigation over "kill" comments

IBF super-middleweight champion Carl Froch is facing investigation from the British Boxing Board of Control over "inappropriate" comments made to upcoming opponent Mikkel Kessler.

In the build-up to the heavily anticipated unification rematch at London's O2 Arena on Saturday, Froch said that he would "kill" WBA titlist Kessler if he had to.

However, British Boxing secretary Robert Smith has criticised the Nottingham fighter for his choice of words and stated that the BBBoC will look into the matter after the bout.

"It's unfortunate and inappropriate that he's said this," Smith told Telegraph Sport. "You might bear in mind the stage, the biggest fight of his life and he's hellbent on revenge but he knows these things are wrong to say for a boxer.

"He's a father for goodness sake, but all this will be borne in mind when we look at the situation. We're very disappointed that Carl should say that. He has always been a model professional and he understands the dangers of the sport as we all do.

"Nothing will be said to him before the fight but we will be speaking to him about this after the contest."

On Thursday, Froch took to his Twitter account to apologise for his comments, saying that "emotions were running high".
