DeGale believes he'd 'destroy' Froch's career

James DeGale believes he would beat Carl Froch if the two super-middleweights met in the ring, because his style is perfectly suited to counter Froch's threat.

Froch, the current IBF and WBA super-middleweight champion, is currently plotting his next move after defeating Mikkel Kessler in London last month. DeGale hopes to get to world title level soon, and will fight Croatia's Stjepan Bozic on Saturday as he takes another step towards that target.

A domestic bout between Froch and DeGale - or the former Olympian's long-time rival, George Groves - has long been discussed in the press. DeGale believes he would have too much for 'the Cobra' if the fight ever materialised, believing he is similar to the counter-attacking boxers Froch has had trouble with throughout his career.

"He's a good fighter Carl Froch, a very good fighter, but my style is all wrong for him," DeGale told Sky Sports News. "Look at the fighters that have given him trouble - [Andre] Ward, [Andre] Dirrell, [Jermain] Taylor - move, speed. I think I'll be all wrong for him.

"I'm here if Carl Froch wants the fight. If the boxing fans want the fight, I'm here. I would have it next week, but I'm not too sure what he wants to do."

Froch has made little secret of his contempt for the upstart British fighters that have shown him little respect in recent weeks, warning Groves that he could "freeze him out" from ever fighting him if he continues to be insulting in the media.

DeGale appears not to have heeded that warning, however, expressing his confidence that he would "destroy" Froch's career.

DeGale added: "I've heard he said if he fought me, he would destroy my career. I think it's the other way around. If I fought him and beat him, how could he lose to me?"
