Murray confirms interest in Froch step up

Middleweight Martin Murray is the latest to throw his hat into the ring for a fight against super-middleweight world champion Carl Froch.

Fighters from Great Britain are queuing up to take on Froch - who is waiting to hear from two foreign rivals, Mikkel Kessler and Andre Ward, before plotting his next professional move.

Up-and-coming super-middleweights George Groves and James DeGale are eager to face the IBF and WBA champion - but Murray could offer a third option, as the respected St Helens fighter considers a move up a weight class after his narrow world title defeat to Sergio Martinez.

Murray believes his style would produce a classic fight with Froch.

"Styles make fights and me vs Froch would be war!" Murray said on Twitter.

He added to the St Helens Reporter: "Making super-middle would just be that little bit easier for me to make the weight. I'm a big middleweight so I wouldn't look out of place at 168.

"I make middle easy enough so I've got no intentions of moving up, but if I got the call to fight Froch then I would definitely be interested."

Murray has a number of options following his loss to Martinez, considered one of the pound-for-pound best fighters in the world, but many of them involve long overseas trips. A home fight would be appealing.

"Everyone has been so supportive of me since I got back," he said. "It's hard to get my head around how much support I've had.

"I'm just waiting to find out where I go next. At the moment there's talk of possibly going to Mexico, America or Australia - or even a fight over here. It's all up in the air at the moment."
