Arum: Alvarez lacks stamina to test Floyd

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum believes undefeated welterweight star Floyd Mayweather Jr will have no trouble dispatching Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez when the pair meet in Las Vegas on September 14.

Five-division champion Mayweather Jr confirmed via his official Twitter account in May that the biggest fight boxing had to offer would be held at the MGM Grand this fall.

The 36-year-old holds a world title at welterweight (147 pounds) as well as a title at light-heavyweight (154), but will fight Alvarez at a catchweight of 152 pounds.

Alvarez, unbeaten in 43 fights, faces the American following his biggest career win to date; on April 27, he defeated Austin Trout by unanimous decision in front of 40,000 fans in San Antonio to unify two light-heavyweight titles.

However, the Mexican faded in the latter rounds and Arum believes the lack of stamina will cost Alvarez dear when he takes on pound-for-pound king Mayweather Jr.

"Canelo doesn't have the speed or the stamina to cope with Mayweather Jr," Arum told esnewsreporting.com. "The problem is Canelo, and a lot of young fighters, don't have the stamina.

"They run out of gas. That's what happened to him in the Austin Trout fight. I think Mayweather Jr will decision or stop him."
