Froch: Kessler rematch the priority

Unified super-middleweight champion Carl Froch says a potential third bout with old rival Mikkel Kessler will take priority over a rematch with Andre Ward.

The Nottingham fighter avenged his 2010 defeat to the Dane in another classic meet at the O2 Arena in May, winning by unanimous decision to level the scores.

American Ward is the only other boxer to mark the Froch's record with a loss, and since inflicting revenge on Kessler the 'Cobra' has not been shy in issuing the challenge to the unbeaten San Franciso sparrer.

However, Froch admits there will be more revenue in setting up a decider with foe Kessler - but still insists he would be interested in getting into the ring again with Ward.

"I'll leave it to my promoter to decide which route we'll go," Froch told Jenna Jay of On The Ropes Boxing Radio. "But a rematch with Mikkel Kessler will take priority over a rematch with Andre Ward as far as we're concerned.

"Andre Ward doesn't bring much to the table in terms of revenue. This is what the promoters are telling me, this is what the TV broadcasters are telling me and it's what the fans are telling me.

"So it's not just me saying this. I'll happily fight Andre Ward but let's see if we can get him over to England, if he'd fancy that. You never know."

Since unifying the division, the 35-year-old has a queue of fighters wanting to challenge, including the likes of fellow Brits George Groves and Nathan Cleverly.
