Froch brands Cleverly 'insignificant'

Unified WBA and IBF super-middleweight champion Carl Froch will not move up a division in order to fight an 'insignificant' boxer such as Nathan Cleverly.

Since 'The Cobra' defeated Mikkel Kessler in May at the O2 Arena, Froch has been a man in demand, with Cleverly in particular being one of the men lined up to face him.

However, with Cleverly a weight above as a light-heavyweight, Froch has revealed he will not move up a division just to fight someone like the Welshman or anyone else.

"I can pick and choose who I fight so why would I choose to go up a weight which is unnatural and give somebody an advantage who's insignificant and that's what most these people are, they're insignificant in my career and where I'm going," Froch told Fight Club.

Froch has lost just the two fights in his career; one to Kessler back in 2010 and the other to Andre Ward a year later.

But the 35-year-old feels there is no reason to fight someone like Cleverly.

"I'm not a light heavyweight, it's as simple as that. I'm also not in a position where I need to giveaway every single advantage I've got as a fighter. I'm a very, very, strong hard puncher in middleweight," he said.
