Khan sees Alexander as start of new chapter

Amir Khan feels the step up to 147lbs will launch a new chapter in his career, with the Briton hoping to secure fights with Floyd Mayweather and Devon Alexander.

Khan claims he has been 'killing himself' trying to get down to 140lbs and feels he will be a far stronger fighter making the step up to welterweight.

His advisors are in talks to fight Alexander in Dubai at the end of year and expects to have confirmation in the next fortnight. But irrespective of who his next opponent is, Khan feels there are exciting times ahead.

"I am moving up to 147lbs," Khan told Sky Sports News. "I have been killing myself trying to get to 140lbs so this is the next move and there are a lot of new challenges for me.

"At 147lbs there's Floyd Mayweather; Devon Alexander who I have offered to fight next in December. We are working on that deal at the moment and we should know in the next couple of weeks who my next opponent is going to be.

"147 is a new chapter in my career and it is going to be great. There are some big names to fight."

Khan's most recent fight was a win over Julio Diaz in Sheffield, but he is eyeing further afield for his next trip into the ring.

"We are looking at Dubai," he said. "It could be there or back to Vegas. Vegas is the Mecca of boxing, but to take a fight to Dubai would be amazing. We are in talks with a couple of the Sheikhs and sports councils. Richard Schaefer is hopefully flying out there in the next couple of weeks and hopefully we can get a deal done.

"I have a big fan-base over there. I would love to fight over there and we will know in the next couple of weeks."
