Haye: I'm fighting Fury for a Klitschko

David Haye admits that he agreed to fight Tyson Fury to prepare for and prove his worth to the Klitschko brothers as he seeks another shot at a heavyweight title.

The former two-weight world champion faces Fury in Manchester on September 28, and Haye is confident that he will be ready to consign the 24-year-old to his first professional defeat.

"After I've won this fight I'll be looking to get a world title shot with Vitali or Wladimir Klitschko and that's why I'm taking this fight," Haye told Sky Sports News.

"It's a fight for the fans and it gets me closer to fighting a big guy, getting used to having a big guy all over me and when it comes to fighting Vitali or Wladimir it is not going to be a stress."

Haye has suffered just two defeats in his career, the last coming against Wladimir Klitschko on points in 2011, a result he is desperate to avenge. But the former WBA heavyweight champion admits he is not taking Fury lightly.

"I'm 32 and he's 24 and he's a young hungry lion," Haye added. "In my early career I took it for granted that I would turn up and knock the guy out."

"I have realised that everybody is on their A-game and everybody raises their level. They are stronger, fitter, faster and more determined. I've had to increase my training and make sure I'm fitter and faster."
