Dereck Chisora will go after a touted shot at the European title with the EBU putting him forward as the mandatory challenger, trainer Don Charles has revealed.

Charles was in Chisora's corner last month as the 29-year-old defeated Malik Scott. Chisora is waiting to hear from promoter Frank Warren about his next fight, with September 21 the mooted date.

"Frank Warren is in the process of bidding to secure the EBU title shot for Dereck and is hoping to win the bid," Charles told World Boxing News.

"There are a number of fighters on our radar and Frank Warren has mapped out a route for Dereck, all will be revealed in the near future."

Chisora had been put forward as mandatory challenger to Kubrat Pulev, although the Bulgarian now faces an IBF eliminator against Tony Thompson on August 24.

The EBU pushed the purse bid back to August 27, but with Pulev likely to move on whatever the outcome against Thompson, Charles is backing the current champion to secure a shot at the winner of the bout between Wladimir Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin.

"I believe the fight is now going ahead and I see Pulev scoring a TKO against Thompson. We can then see what happens with Dereck and the EBU," added Charles.

Chisora had been set to meet undefeated American Deontay Wilder over the summer before visa issues put paid to the bout.
