Anthony Ogogo has pulled out of his fight on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather Jr's blockbuster Las Vegas bout with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez due to a hand injury.

An opponent had yet to be named for Ogogo, who was set to step into the ring at the MGM Grand on September 14 as support to one of the most widely anticipated bouts in recent boxing history.

However, Ogogo insists the right decision has been made as he looks to regain his fitness in a bid to become a middleweight world champion.

"I've made the hard decision to pull out of this one and focus on getting fit," Ogogo told BBC Radio Suffolk. "I could have had injections in it but it's only my fourth fight and I don't want to be going down that road too soon.

"It's a hard decision but I think the right decision. I'm going to take a little bit of rest and try and get a couple more fights in before the end of the year, probably both in England.

"I want to get as good as possible as quickly as possible and be in big fights myself - not fighting on a Mayweather Jr undercard but on an Ogogo promotion defending world titles."

Ogogo won bronze at the London 2012 Olympics before signing professional terms with Golden Boy Promotions in January. He has enjoyed victories in all three of his fights since turning pro, defeating Kieron Gray, Edgar Perez and Gary Boulden this year.
