Ricky Burns insists he will not make the same mistakes which almost cost him his WBO lightweight title in May when he faces Raymundo Beltran on Saturday.

Burns trailed Jose A Gonzalez on all three of the judges' scorecards before his opponent retired on his stool with a hand injury before the beginning of the tenth round, but he admits he will not have a similar approach to his latest encounter in Glasgow.

"Trust me, the mistakes that were made won't happen again. During the fight from the start you could see I was trying to force the fight, I was over-stretching, I was trying to put everything into every punch and that is just not me," Burns told Sky Sports.

"I am a good boxer when I want to be, but I know obviously I can get involved in a brawl if needs be as well and I think on Saturday night we are going to take this a round at a time.

"There are times when I am going to try and go out and stick to my jab, keep it long, but there is always that side to me that wants to get involved in a bit of a war. So who knows? We will tackle it one round at a time."

Burns also revealed he will need to be at his best if he is to successfully defend his WBO title for a fourth time against a boxer who has lost three of his last nine fights.

"Boxing is my job, that is the way I have always looked at it. I don't treat any fight any different, I always give 100% in the gym and I know I will be prepared for whatever happens on the night," the Scot said.

"And I am going to need that because I can see this being a hard 12 rounds. Raymundo is a great fighter and I think the fans are in for a real treat. They are expecting a sell-out crowd so I am looking forward to fighting in Glasgow again."
