Mayweather Jr is running scared of me - Alvarez

Saul Alvarez insists his bout against pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr will change the history of boxing, and believes the American is "very worried" about the clash.

Mayweather Jr has yet to lose a fight in his career, winning all 44 of his tussles and recording 26 knockouts, and the welterweight has been touted as the greatest of all-time as he puts his record on the line on September 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Alvarez though, feels a victory for him will see him go down as the boxer who rewrote the history books.

"This fight can change history, when I win this fight it will be a memorable win. This is what is motivating me," Alvarez, himself unbeaten in 42 fights at light-middleweight, is quoted as saying by World Boxing News.

"I'm not worried about the occasion. In my career I've always been able to focus very well despite being in some very tough fights. I'm a fighter who has always been very strong mentally and very cold in my thoughts."

And Alvarez is of the impression that Mayweather has already written off his chances of beating him on the night.

"I think the way Mayweather is talking he is underestimating me but deep down I think he is very worried. He's always been a talker, that's the kind of person he is. But I don't care what he's saying or what he's thinking, all I care about is what I'm saying and what I'm thinking and that I'm in control - that's what matters to me," Alvarez said.

"It's good Mayweather is saying that this won't be the toughest fight of his career, the day he gets up into the ring with me he'll see whether it's a tough fight or not."
