Amir Khan has issued a Twitter plea to Floyd Mayweather Jr in the hope of setting up a world title bout against the unbeaten superstar.

Khan, who was ringside in Las Vegas as Mayweather extended his record to 45-0 with a one-sided points victory over Saul Alvarez on Saturday night, has his own world title shot in December against IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander.

However, the British fighter already has one eye on a massive fight against the biggest star in the sport, tweeting the following message on Monday morning:

Khan's hopes may be realised as Mayweather's father and coach, Floyd Sr, said after the Alvarez victory that he wants his son to fight Khan next.

Mayweather has four fights remaining on a deal with a reported $200 million with US TV company Showtime, but is currently more focused on taking a break from the ring.

"I don't know what the future holds," he said. "I [will] look to fight in May and again in September and then again May and September.

"I need a vacation. I haven't taken a vacation in four or five years."
