British heavyweight Dereck Chisora surged to a fifth-round stoppage of Edmund Gerber to take the vacant European title belt at London's Copper Box.

Chisora, who lost to David Haye last year, has since stopped Argentina's Hector Alfredo Avila and American Malik Scott before adding Gerber to the list with a series of combination shots in the corner before the referee stepped in.

The 29-year-old said after the fight that he still hopes for another shot at a world title, but has given himself three years to achieve it.

"I've been training every day," said Chisora, who now has 18 wins and four losses. "I told my team I'm going to give myself three years in this game, training every day.

"I've woken up. My mum told me to either do it seriously or stop. So now I'm going to do this seriously."

Promoter Frank Warren has raised the possibility of a Chisora match-up with Tyson Fury, who has seen his bout against David Haye postponed due to Haye's cut sustained in sparring.

Elsewhere on the card at the Copper Box, Frankie Gavin retained his British and Commonwealth title against David Barnes. Gavin took an uninspiring fight on points, 118-111, 117-112 and 118-112.

Unbeaten Liam Walsh also retained his Commonwealth super-featherweight title and won the vacant WBO International title after a majority decision victory over previously unbeaten Joe Murray.

Billy Joe Saunders was another to retain his British and Commonwealth belts, edging out John Ryder in a narrow points decision.
