Groves replaces trainer Booth with Fitzpatrick

George Groves has stepped up preparations for his world title fight with Carl Froch with the appointment of Irish trainer Paddy Fitzpatrick.

Groves, unbeaten in 19 professional fights, ended a five-year partnership with Adam Booth last week, just weeks before his twin world title shot on November 23.

But Fitzpatrick is no stranger to Groves, having worked in the 25-year-old's corner for a number of fights, and has a wealth of experience in the corner including spells with David Haye.

"Paddy and I have worked closely together in the past and already have a very good relationship, one built over many years," Groves told BBC Sport.

"Not only has he worked my corner for important fights, we have also spent a lot of time together when abroad on training camps, where Paddy has overseen a number of significant sessions."

Groves will fight Froch for the IBF and WBA super-middleweight titles at Manchester's MEN Arena, a fight night that sold out in just 11 minutes last week.

And the former British and Commonwealth super-middleweight champion is adamant that the change of trainer will offer him a welcome change of perspective for the fight.

"Although this is a fresh change for me, I'm working with someone I know and respect, and someone who knows my game inside out. We both know how the other works, so it won't take long to hit the ground running.

"His experience and knowledge of the game is world-class and he is, without doubt, the perfect trainer to help me prepare for my next fight. He has a great energy, both in the gym and on fight night, and I feel totally comfortable in his presence."
