Burns targeting February rematch with Beltran

A deal for a rematch between Ricky Burns and Raymundo Beltran is all but done, according to the WBO lightweight world champion's manager Alex Morrison.

Burns retained his belt against Beltran in September after their original bout was controversially called as a draw.

The Mexican's camp firmly believed Beltran was robbed of the title after he dominated much of the fight - which included breaking his opponent's jaw in the second round and also knocking him down in the eighth.

Burns required surgery on his injured jaw and also had titanium plates inserted into his face, although the Coatbridge fighter recently returned to light training.

Consequently, Morrison has revealed that a February rematch is close to confirmation and will likely take place in Glasgow - the same city as the original bout.

"Ricky feels it's the moral thing to do in giving Beltran another shot," Morrison told BBC Scotland. "He wants to put the record straight after fighting for 10 rounds with a broken jaw in that first fight.

"We want it. Beltran wants it and the fans want it. The deal is done. We're 99% there with it and are just waiting for the final confirmation which will happen any day now. We're looking at early February in Glasgow."
