Fury retirement denied by trainer

Tyson Fury's uncle and trainer has denied that the fighter has retired from boxing - and insists talks are ongoing for a potential bout with Deontay Wilder.

Fury had insisted he was hanging up his gloves after breaking the news on Twitter.

The 25-year-old was due to face David Haye in February after their bout was rescheduled, but after Haye said he will retire following shoulder surgery on the weekend, Fury had seemingly gone in the same direction.

He tweeted: "Hi everyone, I have officially retired from boxing. There are too many bent people in the sport. They will have to f**k someone else. Goodbye boxing."

But Peter Fury dismissed his nephew's claims, also taking to Twitter to pour water on the situation.

Peter Fury also said his camp are still in discussions to schedule a fight with unbeaten American Wilder. Tyson Fury said on Tuesday that "Team Fury will do anything in their power to make this fight, because it's the only fight out there for me worth fighting."

Promoter Mick Hennessy also confirmed that talks had started over the bout.

"We have had talks with Wilder's people and we are in discussions at the moment, but obviously there are a lot of pieces of the jigsaw we need to fit together," said Hennessy.

"We are looking at a number of different options but one thing we do know is that Tyson is one of the biggest draws in world boxing at the moment and as soon as he is ready we will look to get him back in the ring."

Haye and Fury were set to enter the ring in September, but Haye suffered a cut above his eye and was forced to pull out of the fight.

With the contest then moved to February 8, Haye has been advised to retire after he underwent major shoulder surgery, and the rescheduled fight was cancelled, leaving the Fury camp unimpressed with the former heavyweight champion of the world.

Hennessy said: "Tyson needs time to get used to the situation because all these things - broken toes, cut eyes, shoulder injuries - are like a foreign language to him."
