Quigg aiming for America, Frampton bout a possibility

WBA super-bantamweight champion Scott Quigg is busy preparing for what could be a bumper 2014, according to his trainer Joe Gallagher.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Gallagher stated he has high hopes for his fighter. Quigg has several options, including a potential all-British clash with Carl Frampton and a possible unification title bout with IBF champion Kiko Martinez.

Quigg made a first successful defence of his WBA belt when stopping Diego Silva in the second round of their Manchester bout, which featured on the undercard of Carl Froch's epic battle with George Groves. His previous defence since being awarded the title ended in a draw against Yoandris Salinas.

The 25-year-old will travel to Spain on December 21 to scout Martinez's title defence against Jeffrey Mathebula, a fight which Frampton is also expected to be at ringside for.

However, fighting in America is a real possibility for Quigg and Gallagher is currently aiming to get his man in action early next year.

"Scott's dream was to win the world title and he's accomplished that this year," Gallagher told the newspaper. "The next thing he wants to do is to turn Gigg Lane into Quigg Lane and bring a world title fight to his hometown.

"He's going to get some world class sparring at the Wild Card [Gym] in January with a view to fighting in March or April and possibly a fight with Martinez in the summer.

"Beyond that we are looking at Leo Santa Cruz and going to America. There are a lot of big fights in 2014 and he wants to test himself against the best in the division.

"Both Quigg and Frampton will be at ringside [for the Martinez fight] and both want the fight. If Matchroom can make the deal then we would love to do it at Bury."
