Mayweather Jr bout is off, admits Khan
Amir Khan has launched a Twitter attack on Floyd Mayweather Jr accusing the unbeaten light-middleweight star of being "disrespectful", stating there will be no fight made between them.
Khan recently expressed doubts over whether a bout with 'Money' would materialise, but the Brit has since taken to the social networking site to indicate the American has "wasted his time."
Hearn: Phones 'red hot' for Khan v Brook
- Amir Khan may have been left frustrated having appeared to have missed out on a lucrative showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr, but promoter Eddie Hearn has hinted towards a possible all-British clash with Kell Brook.
- Hearn took to Twitter to call out Khan, stating the Bolton fighter's following had deemed a bout with Brook would be "easy" - all the more the reason to take it.
- Hearn admitted the phone had been "red hot" with people asking for the pair to fight; with George Groves fighting Carl Froch again and Tyson Fury likely to fight Dereck Chisora, a clash between Brook and Khan could further compliment a brilliant year of British boxing.
The 27-year-old had previously won a fans vote - held by Mayweather himself via Twitter - to be his next opponent and secured around 60% of the 35,000 votes over former opponent Marcos Maidana.
Khan still leads the vote held on Mayweather's official website, although he conceded the fact that the champion is now likely to face Maidana - despite the Argentine admitting no deal had been agreed.
Khan finished by apologising to his fans over the situation and stated that Mayweather was "running scared" from him.
On Wednesday, Bob Arum - who promotes Mayweather's long-standing rival Manny Pacquiao - branded the 36-year-old's conduct a "disgrace."
Mayweather is likely to fight on May 3, while Khan could be left fighting a Plan B opponent.
No response from Mayweather or his team. Fights not happening. I should of taken the title fight last December against Alexander...
