Luke Campbell has confirmed he will take a break from boxing after his father was diagnosed with cancer.

Campbell, who turned professional in April 2013 after winning bantamweight gold at the London 2012 Olympic Games, was due to fight in Manchester on Saturday but has since withdrawn from the bout.

"The last few months have been particularly difficult for my family and it's been hard to focus on my training," Campbell said in a statement on his official website.

"Anyone that knows me will tell you how meticulous I am with my preparation going into a fight.

"With this in mind, I feel it is only right to be with my family at this difficult time until I can fully focus on my boxing.

"My family and I thank everyone for their support and understanding and I look forward to returning to action in the near future."

Campbell is unbeaten in five fights since deciding to turn professional.
