Khan to outweigh Mayweather on Vegas bill
Amir Khan says he will be the main man in Las Vegas when he fights on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather Jr's bout against Marcos Maidana on May 3.
Khan will make his debut at welterweight when he takes on Luis Collazo at the MGM Grand after claiming he had to almost "kill himself" to make weight in a lighter division. But he insists all eyes will be on him after he missed out on a clash with the unbeaten American.
"I want the world to see me putting the pressure on with a good performance. I want to steal the show," the former WBA and IBF light-welterweight champion said.
"With the styles me and Collazo have, we can definitely do that because both of us will come to fight and it's a genuine bout that can go either way if I am not at the top of my game.
"Adrien Broner is also on the bill, but he will walk through his opponent Carlos Molina. And is there anyone out there who really fancies Maidana to beat Mayweather in what is the top of the bill?"
The Briton hopes by conveying what he is capable of doing it will "force" Mayweather Jr to fight him in the future.
"Fans know my bout is genuinely competitive. They know I am willing to face anyone at any time and that I don't swerve anything," he said.
"By showing my skill and strengths, I believe it can force Mayweather to finally fight me near the end of his career because it will be a fight that fans call for."
Khan last entered the ring in April 2013 when he defeated Julio Diaz in Sheffield. He insists he will not be rusty against Collozo and claimed moving up a division to make the weight has benefited him.
"I've definitely been helped by moving up to welterweight because it means I don't literally have to starve myself to make the weight," he said.
"You can kill yourself to make the weight and it has a knock-on effect. You lose your focus, you forget about the gameplan because the only thought is to reach 140 pounds. I was more worried about the weight than technique and fight gameplans.
"Inevitably I'd be a bit weak because of training while eating almost nothing. That kind of happened to me towards the end. The fight bit was, it just never occurred to me I was like, 'I just have to make the weight'."
