World super-middleweight title contender George Groves has signed a deal to be promoted by Team Sauerland.

Groves agreed a deal with the German-based promoters ahead of his highly anticipated world title rematch against IBF and WBA champion Carl Froch at Wembley Stadium on May 31.

In April, the Hammersmith-born fighter obtained a license from the British Boxing Board of Control in order to manage himself and claimed he "trusted no one" in the aftermath of his controversial loss to Froch first time around.

Groves joins fellow Brit David Price on the books at Team Sauerland as well as Mikkel Kessler, one of only two professionals to mark Froch's card with defeat.

"I'm extremely pleased to have signed with Team Sauerland,'' Groves told his official website.

"I have boxed on their shows in the past and have known Kalle and Nisse [Sauerland] for years. The shows they put on in Europe are phenomenal.

"This is definitely a step in the right direction for me as I look to build my name not only across Europe but all around the world.

"I feel that now I have the right team in place to help me achieve everything I need to in boxing.''

Groves suffered the first defeat of his career when referee Howard Foster controversially stopped their November bout in the ninth round.

As a result, the Groves camp called for a foreign official to take charge of the rematch before promoter Eddie Hearn objected the appointment of American Jack Reiss as referee for Wembley.

A new official is yet to be appointed, but Groves' trainer Paddy Fitzpatrick has called for "strong referee" to watch out for Froch "fouling" during the pair's rematch.
